Contemporary “bespoke” refers to the fine
art of custom tailoring. A bespoke tailor is a rare breed in the
wedding industry. That’s why we’re so excited to acquaint you with Lisa Krizner-George, designer, artist, entrepreneur and proprietress of Vanilla Pink.
Lisa’s
passion for custom design is her inheritance. Born into a family of
women who for generations took delight in the art of fine sewing, the
skill passed on to Lisa as a child.
Armed with a degree from the Rodgers and
Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising, Lisa began her
career as a design assistant with an upscale boutique, focusing on
evening wear and vintage clothing. A 1991 move to New York with a
thirst for fresh design ideas and techniques evolved into a decade-long
opportunity to work with leading designers as a draper for Broadway
plays, charged with taking the designer’s ideas from sketch to stage.
You may have seen her work, if you were
fortunate enough to see The Producers (both Broadway and film), Wicked,
Spamalot, Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, Oklahoma, Fiddler On the Roof, 42nd
Street, Nine, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway during
that time. Impressive! But as exciting as her life in New
York proved to be, Lisa still longed to make her own designs from her
own sketches – to make “clothing worthy of memories.”
As often happens when one focuses on what
they love doing best, today Lisa works from her own studio,
conceptualizing, designing and completing her intricately detailed
designs for discerning brides from her own sketches.
You can see her passion in the exquisite
details, right down to the hand-sewn labels and the extra added touches
of personal memory sewn into the designs.
The creative process that goes into these
one-of-a-kind designs begins with a meeting, a sharing of ideas, the
genesis of a highly personalized, custom tailored wedding gown.
The final fabrics chosen, whether vintage
or contemporary, might be duchess satin, silk crepe and matelassé,
chiffon, silk gazar, and lace, often imported from France and Italy.
Hand-beading and hand-embroidery may add a touch of whimsy or a bit of
delicacy in the detailing.
Silk linings and hand-finishing ensure impeccable fit. If you want to learn more about Lisa’s exquisite bespoke designs (and you know you do), please visit Vanilla Pink - a simply gorgeous website – perfect for showcasing the amazing artistry of this talented designer.
